If you have been arrested and are being held at a station whilst waiting to be questioned, you have certain rights. As it will be explained to you by a custody officer, you will have the right to get free legal aid. This can be arranged for you whilst you’re there in a number of ways. You can ask for the ‘duty solicitor’ who is independent and will be available around the clock. You can ask for legal advice and the police will contact the Defence Solicitor Call Centre (DSCC), or you can ask them to contact a lawyer known to you.
